Top things to do in Rwanda
Go gorilla trekking, see the beautiful Lake Kivu, visit the friendly capital, Kigali, and spot chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Here are the top things to do on a Rwanda holiday, as chosen by our Africa specialists.

Go gorilla trekking
Home to over half of the world's last remaining mountain gorilla population, venturing into the montane forest of the beautiful Volcanoes National park is one of the greatest wildlife encounters possible in Africa.

See Lake Kivu
Be driven through tea and banana plantations, passing waving villagers on the way to Lake Kivu. Stop at Kibuye and take a boat trip across the lake to Napolean Island with its colony of fruit bats. Spend a night in Gisenyi, watching the sunset on its lovely sandy beach.

Spot chimpanzees
The major attraction in the tropical Nyungwe Forest National Park are chimpanzees. The guided forest walks offer the opportunity to see as many as 275 bird and 75 mammal (including 13 primate) species living there.

Visit Kigali
A small, modern and friendly capital, Kigali does not have the organised tourist activities of some of its regional counterparts. However, expect authentic and lively local markets, as well as a moving, well-narrated account of the Rwandan Genocide at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre.
