Wadi Rum, Jordan
Jordan’s Wadi Rum offers some of the most extraordinary desert scenery imaginable. During the day, the dramatic colours of the red sand dunes are accentuated by towering jebels; by night, the sky comes alive and visitors can enjoy the galaxy of stars overhead. Cox & Kings’ Middle East expert Leah Reavley recommends staying in a local Bedouin dome-style tent, or should you wish to fully embrace the stargazing then follow in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia and take your roll-mat and sleeping bag outside for the night.
Loisaba Star Beds, Kenya
Our Africa product manager recommends Loisaba in Kenya. Set on the edge of Laikipia plateau just north of Mount Kenya, Loisaba is luxurious yet in perfect balance with the surrounding wilderness. The lavish cottages of the main house are complemented by two sets of 'Star Beds' - Koija, overlooking the Ewaso Ng'iro river and Kiboko, above a watering hole. Set high on handcrafted wooden platforms, the comfortable king-sized beds can either be wheeled out onto the uncovered deck for the night or left under the shelter of a thatched roof.
